Float Spa

interior design

Brasilia, Brasil, 2013

Architectural and Interior Design project

Float Spa is the first floatation centre in South America. Floatation is a sensory deprivation therapy in which people float inside a capsule filled with very salt 38 degree water, without being disturbed by sensations of gravity, temperature, light or sound. In a sensory deprivation capsule, peoples brain easily tunes into ‘theta brainwaves’, leading to meditation and creativity. On a physical level it has been proven that 1 hour in a sensory deprivation tank compensates 4 hours of deep sleep. Many physical pains can be relieved by floating.

I have designed Float Spa space inside an existing building, with challenging restrictions. The space available was long and narrow, while for the spa the intention has been to create light spacious rooms with good ventilation. Float spa exists of two floatation rooms, a massage room, a meeting room an reception area.

I have also designed the reception furniture for float and supervised production and installation.
