Work exposed at Pepalito Antiquario Brasilia

Pepalito Antiquario in Brasilia exposes work by a number of Brazilian artists I highly admire and have been inspired by. Rubem Valentim and Roberto Burle Marx are amongst those.

Afro-Brazilian artist Rubem Valentim (1922 Salvador-1991 São Paulo) has been an important inspiration to me. Rubem Valentim, also called ‘artista do luz’ or the ‘artist of light’, worked with symbols of african heritage and translated those in a new visually modernist, almost graphic, symbolism. He expressed spiritual questions almost mathematically.  His symbols often represent orixás, protecting dieties in afro-brazilian Candomblé culture.

Roberto Burle Marx (1909 Sao Paulo- 1994 Rio de Janeiro), mainly known as the splendid landscape designer that shaped many brazilian city parks and the gardens of many buildings designed by architect by Oscar Niemeyer, was also a great painter.

It is an honour to have my work exposed in the same space as these big artists, at at Pepalito Antiquário in Brasilia.
